Lorena McCannon Sagle, Idaho

Memorial service for Lorena Jepson McCannon, 85, will be today at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McCannon, who was born in Massachusetts, died Thursday.

She grew up in Wisconsin and Illinois and attended school in Illinois. She later became a teacher there.

She married Roland McCannon in 1930.

She had lived in Oregon and moved to Sandpoint in 1988.

Mrs. McCannon was active in the Audubon Club, Bonner General Hospital Auxiliary, the Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, and the Methodist Church and volunteered at area nursing homes.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Roland, at home; one son, David McCannon of Liberty Lake; one daughter, Phyllis Harris of Hope, Idaho; three sisters, Mildred Norman and Virginia Jepson, both of Arizona, and Olive Dewey of Illinois; three grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Clyde ‘Tim’ Metcalf Libby, Mont.

Private burial for Clyde L. “Tim” Metcalf, 74, a former Spokane resident, will be held at the Libby Cemetery. Nelson and Vial Funeral Home in Libby is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Metcalf, who died Monday at home, was born in La Grande, Ore.

He served in the Army infantry in New Guinea during World War II.

He returned to Oregon and lived in Tillamook and Eugene.

Mr. Metcalf moved to Spokane and worked as the manager of the Eagles Club. He lived in Spokane for more than 20 years and moved to Libby with his wife, Dolly, in 1985.

In Libby he worked as a technician for Beasley Entertainment.

His wife, Dolly, died in 1994.

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1548.

His survivors include two sons, Clyde Metcalf of Redmond, Wash., and Jeff Metcalf of Lincoln City, Ore.; one sister, Kathryn Rogers of Mesa, Ariz.; and one grandchild.

Dewey Shawver Sr. Princeton, Idaho

Visitation for Dewey D. Shawver, Sr., 96, will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Nazarene in Princeton. Burial will follow at Freeze Cemetery north of Potlatch, Idaho.

Mr. Shawver, who died Wednesday at Latah Health Services in Moscow, Idaho, was born in Decatur, Neb.

He and his wife, Alice, farmed in Lyons, Neb., until 1952, when they moved to Princeton.

He drove a logging truck for Vowels Logging and Dick O’Reilly Logging until he retired in 1965.

He was a member of the Princeton Church of the Nazarene and the American Legion in Potlatch.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, at Latah Health Services; one son, Dewey Shawver Jr. of Potlatch; two daughters, Alice Besst of Princeton and Lillian Judd of Waitsburg, Wash.; two half-sisters, Ruth Besst of Lewiston and Jean Renz of Potlatch; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Nazarene.

Wayne Chastain Spokane

Service for Wayne Jasper Chastain, 90, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace Baptist Church with burial to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Spring Canyon Cemetery in Grand Coulee. Ball & Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Milton-Freewater, Ore., Mr. Chastain died Wednesday.

He graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla.

He had worked for the Department of Agriculture in Milton-Freewater for 21 years and was the manager of the Inland Empire Pea Growers Association in Spokane for many years. He had also worked for the federal government in Coulee Dam and returned to Spokane six years ago.

He was a member of the Spokane and Coulee Dam Rotary clubs, The Spokane Club, Grace Baptist Church and Coulee Dam Community Church.

His first wife, of 52 years, Lucile Chastain, died in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Chastain; two daughters, Ellen Davis of Portland and Judy Chastain of Spokane; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church.

Sarah ‘Stella’ Emerson Spokane

Memorial service for Sarah Frances “Stella” Emerson, 85, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Emerson, a 60-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

She was born in Ford, Wash.

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Her husband, Wade, died in 1981.

She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Root, and one son, Wade Emerson, both of Spokane; one sister, Alice Bond of Davenport, Wash.; seven grandchildren and 19 greatgrandchildren.

Harold McKelvey Hayden Lake, Idaho

Funeral service for Harold “Bud” McKelvey, 92, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. McKelvey, who was born in Pittsburgh, died Wednesday at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene.

He grew up in Seattle and graduated from West Seattle High School. He attended a technical college in Minnesota for two years and begin a career as a life insurance agent in Spokane.

He married Ina Harris in 1940.

Mr. McKelvey served in the Navy during World War II, returning to Spokane after his discharge from the service.

He moved to Hayden Lake in 1961 and retired from West Coast Life Insurance Co. in 1983.

He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Coeur d’Alene, the Shrine, the Elks Lodge, and the Marine Club of San Francisco. He was also a member of the Hayden Lake Country Club and a 50-year member of the Spokane Club.

His wife died in 1993.

Survivors include his daughter, Jackie Flaherty of Hayden Lake; one grandson and three greatgrandchildren.
