Whitworth College Elected To Templeton Honor Roll

Compiled By Mary Beth Donelan

Whitworth College is one of 124 colleges and universities across the nation to be elected to the 1995 Templeton Honor Roll for Character Building Colleges.

Whitworth was recognized for the “important steps it is taking to make character an integral part of the campus experience.”

This is the second time Whitworth has been selected for this honor; it was named to the honor roll in 1992.

Selected colleges were listed in a full-page ad in last month’s America’s Best College’s issue of U.S. News and World Report. In that issue, Whitworth College ranked 12th among regional colleges and universities in the West.

Shonnie Rautio, grand chaplain of the Grand Chapter of Washington Order of the Eastern Star, was recently honored at a reception.

An Eastern Star member since 1964, Rautio is a past deputy instructor and has held several other offices in the Spokane Chapter.

She also volunteers with Meals on Wheels, the Food Bank and the Spokane Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Joann Chasse, a 1995 valedictorian from Shadle Park High School, has been named to Who’s Who Among American High School Students for the second consecutive year.

She maintained a 4.0 grade-point average through high school and is now attending Spokane Falls Community College with plans to transfer to the University of Washington in 1997.

She is the daughter of Ken and Diane Chasse, Spokane.

Takashi Kozuka, has been admitted to the Drew University Graduate School and began classes in the English literature master’s program this fall. He received a Drew University full-tuition International Student Award.

Kozuka is a graduate of Gonzaga University and a resident of Nagoya, Japan, and Spokane.

Arnold and Judie Bos, Spokane, were honored for their achievements as Shaklee Sales Leaders at the Shaklee Leadership Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. Scott Hudson, a Washington

State University professor, has had asteroid “5723 Hudson” named after him by the International Astronomical Union.

The honor recognized him for pioneering the use of radar images to model the shape and rotations of asteroids.

Charlotte Hardt, assistant director of the Area Health Education Center at Washington State University at Spokane, received the 1995 WSU Spokane Employee Excellence Award. She will receive a plaque and a $1,000 check.
