60 Candidates Apply For UI Presidency

Associated Press

Sixty people from 28 states and Panama have applied for the presidency at the University of Idaho.

Rayburn Barton, executive director of the state Board of Education, told board members Friday that applications have been sent to 64 others who have been nominated by members of the community.

Most of the applicants are from traditional academic backgrounds, but Barton said some are from other occupations and one is a general.

Nov. 13 is the closing date for applications. A search committee, headed by former U.S. Sen. James McClure and Board of Education member Roy Mosman, should have all the applications, references and other materials in hand by Nov. 27. The committee will choose 20 to 25 semifinalists by Dec. 14 and deliver a list of five to 10 finalists to the board by Jan. 16.

The UI presidency was vacated last summer when Elisabeth Zinser resigned to become a chancellor at the University of Kentucky.
