‘Entertainment Tonight’ Is Going To Miss Its John

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

Don’t expect to see John Tesh on “Entertainment Tonight” when his contract expires in June.

Why? Seems Tesh and Paramount, the company that produces the show, have indulged in some rancorous negotiating over Tesh’s desires to expand his musical career.

Tesh composes and plays New Age music, which some unkind critics have dubbed “Yanni Lite.” He had wanted three months off to tour his platinum-selling LP “Live at Red Rocks With the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.” The two hammered out a compromise, but “ET” insiders say hard feelings remain.

Tesh, co-host of the show with Mary Hart since 1986, said he would have toured regardless. “I would have been in contempt of court.”

Loose talk

Joyce Brothers on playing herself on “Melrose Place”: “I’m thrilled to death. It’s so cool, because when I tell people, they just fall over. I promise I’m not playing a knife-wielding psycho - that’s the one promise I can make.”

Even now he likes to sit around and eye Claudius

Derek Jacobi turns 57 today.

If it’s anything else, they’ll call it ‘Weasel’

Peace may not be at hand in Bosnia, but at least one potential earth-shaking crisis has been resolved. “Baywatch” actress Pamela Anderson Lee and rocker husband Tommy Lee have agreed to name their forthcoming child - which is at least six months from potential birth - “Spirit” if it’s a boy, “Patience” if it’s a girl.

And she wasn’t a member of the O.J. jury, either

Even though she cut her first album at age 16, an LP that she now says sucks, Canadian-born rocker Alanis Morissette, 22, told Rolling Stone magazine that she’s “not scared people might hear those records. I never did any Playboy centerfolds. There’s nothing I regret.”

Or like saying Danny DeVito is horizontally challenged

Talk-show host Jerry Springer wants to be a country singer, but Entertainment Weekly ripped his first album, “Dr. Talk”: To call Springer’s voice “thin is like observing that Kate Moss ain’t too chubby.”

Honey, did you remember to turn off the iron?

About Melanie Griffith’s love affair with Antonio Banderas, Libby Gelman-Waxner opines in Premiere magazine: “Is this part of Melanie’s divorce settlement from Don Johnson? Has Melanie put up with so much that the court finally said, ‘Sweetheart, here, we’ll award you a Latin bonfire with eyes that can actually trigger puberty, reverse menopause, and cause orgasm in pets, plants, and common household appliances’?”

Actually, the guy just voiced his opinion of ‘Showgirls’

Kyle MacLachlan got into the face of a photographer backstage during a Paris fashion show at which MacLachlan’s girlfriend, supermodel Linda Evangelista, was working. Reports say the photog snapped the couple as they kissed, MacLachlan shoved him and the French shooter responded with a vulgar, four-letter expletive - in English!
