Moore’s Big Night Means More Winning For Idaho

Freshman Jessica Moore had 14 kills and nine digs Saturday as the University of Idaho (8-1, 19-4) beat Idaho State 16-14, 15-6, 15-11 in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match at Pocatello.

The Vandals rallied from a 14-13 first-game deficit to set the tone for their seventh straight win over the Bengals (5-4, 14-7).

North Idaho College won three matches at home, including a 15-10, 16-14, 15-8 Region 18 win over Treasure Valley CC that sends the Cardinals to the regional tournament.

NIC also beat Yakima Valley CC 15-7, 15-10, 15-7 and Walla Walla CC 13-15, 15-11, 15-8, 15-11 in non-league matches.

Senior Kellie Glaus had 24 kills, a career-high 20 digs and five blocks as Eastern Washington (1-8, 5-16) recorded its first Big Sky win of the season, 15-13, 13-15, 15-13, 15-9 over Boise State (4-5, 13-8) in Boise.

Glaus has 1,137 career kills and is 11 behind the school record set by Andrea Pochman from 1990-93.

Freshman Robin Phipps from Ritzville led BSU with 19 kills and 14 digs.

Wendy Wilson had 21 kills and 20 digs as Gonzaga (1-6, 3-20) ended a 13-match losing streak with a 13-15, 15-11, 15-8, 15-7 West Coast Conference win at the University of Portland (2-5, 7-14).

Sisters Jennifer and Christine Kubista combined for 33 kills for the Zags. Dawn Eudaly led the Pilots with 18 kills.

Women’s soccer

Jennifer Tissue scored the match’s first two goals Saturday and 18th-ranked Whitworth topped host Linfield 6-0 at McMinnville, Ore.

The Pirates (8-0-1, 11-4-1) completed their third consecutive shutout and remained atop the Northwest Conference of Independent Colleges standings.

Haley Nichols assisted on Tissue’s second goal and scored the match’s final goal.

Men’s soccer

Joon King, Matt Kinder and Chris Husby scored in Whitworth’s 3-0 NCIC win over Linfield at McMinnville.

Craig Ito, Rio Three Star and Chuck Paulsen had assists for the Pirates (5-4-0, 7-6-1).
