Ywca Conducting Free Breast Health Classes

Because October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the YWCA’s ENCOREplus Program will conduct two free breast health classes Tuesday and Thursday at the YWCA’s Comstock Room.

Tuesday’s class is from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday’s session is from 1 to 3 p.m.

Myths vs. realities of breast cancer will be discussed, along with the need for regular health examinations, how to obtain those examinations and instructions for self-examinations.

Aroma therapy

It’s been said that the oils of flowers and plants promote over-all health and well-being.

It’s called aromatic science and there is a practice called aroma therapy.

On Wednesday, Nov. 8, Karen Wilson, a physical therapist and aroma therapist will discuss the psychology of scent as part of the Empire Health Service’s “A Woman’s Night Out” at the Quality Inn in the Valley.

The evening includes dinner.

Dinner is at 6; the discussion follows from 7 to 9 p.m.

Admission is $16 for members of Women’s Health Network and Health Access; $18 for non-members.

Controlling your destiny

Attorney David Hellenthal will discuss legal issues surrounding the elderly - from disability to death planning - at Thursday’s Osteoporosis Resource Awareness meeting at 1 p.m. in Holy Family Hospital’s Health Education Center.

The forum is titled “Controlling Your Own Destiny by Advanced Legal Planning.”

Eating disorders

Empire Health Services is sponsoring a forum, “Eating Disorders and Related Issues,” at the Deaconess Health and Education Center, 800 W. 5th, Room 265 on Monday, at 7 p.m., Oct. 30.

People experiencing eating disorders will have the opportunity to share experiences and information as well as receive support and referrals.

Women and Wellness

Registration for Pullman Memorial Hospital’s third annual Women and Wellness Forum will be accepted through Friday . The forum will be Saturday, Nov. 4, at the University Inn in Moscow.

Patt Schwab, president of Speakeasy, a speaking and consulting firm in Seattle, will be the keynote speaker.

Additional presentations will be made by local and regional health-care providers.
