Big Sky Honors Vandal Middle Blocker
University of Idaho junior middle blocker Louisa Kawulok of Ranchester, Wyo., is the Big Sky Conference volleyball player of the week.
Idaho went 3-0 as Kawulok averaged 12.7 kills and 11.3 digs per match, and had a hitting percentage of .486. She hit for a career high .692 on Saturday in a win against Boise State as she finished with 10 kills and only one error in 13 attempts.
For the season, Kawulok is averaging 2.563 kills and 2.338 digs per game and is hitting .315.
GSL soccer
Gonzaga Prep, after being deadlocked 1-1 with Central Valley, managed a 2-1 win in a shootout Monday in Greater Spokane League soccer.
The Bears scored quickly on a Holly Hyatt goal at the 4-minute mark and held the Bullpups in check until a Danielle Mirabell goal at 72:00.
G-Prep emerged the victor when Michelle Caputo hit the game’s deciding goal in the shootout.
At Lewis and Clark, Ferris used two overtime goals to beat the Tigers 2-0. After two scoreless regulation halves, Megan Cummings scored the game’s first goal at the 83:00 mark for the Saxons in the first overtime. Cummings’ score was followed 4 minutes later by teammate Mariah McConnaughey’s goal in the second overtime period.
North Central senior goalkeeper Cami McGowan’s 23 saves in her final GSL game wasn’t enough to stop first-place Mead as the host Indians were shut out 4-0.
The Panthers’ Allison Beatty was involved in three of Mead’s four scores with two assists and an unassisted goal.
At University, Shadle Park was limited to five shots on goal as the Titans blanked the Highlanders 3-0.
Emily Stuenkel was instumental in each of U-Hi’s scores as she scored twice and had one assist.
Golf
Mark Rohde of Spokane finished third in the Budweiser Tri-Cities Invitational during the weekend.
Rohde, who shot a 65 on Sunday to wind up at 202, took home $2,000. Craig Gronning of Spokane shot a 72 Sunday to finished in a tie for fourth with a 204 and earned $1,250.
The Invitational was won by Chuck Milne of Portland, who had a 66 Sunday for 201 to win $6,000. Mike Combs of Richland was second with a 65 Sunday for 202.
