Coroner Confirms Body Is Ex-Jockey

From Staff And Wire Reports

The body pulled from the Spokane River on Saturday morning was confirmed to be that of Ruben Rivas, a 29-year-old former Playfair jockey missing since Oct. 15.

The Spokane County Coroner’s Office said an autopsy Monday showed Rivas died of a gunshot wound.

Brothers Hector H. Castaneda, 36, and Julio C. Castaneda, 34, were arrested last week in the home they had shared with Rivas for about three weeks. They were charged Friday with second-degree murder.

On Sunday, Julio Castaneda said his brother accidentally shot Rivas Oct. 15 when Rivas grabbed for a gun that Hector Castaneda was holding. , DataTimes
