Hawkins’ Foul Shot Vaults Sonics To Win

Associated Press

Hersey Hawkins sank a key free throw with 1.9 seconds left Monday to give the Seattle SuperSonics a 99-97 victory over the Chicago Bulls in an exhibition game at the University of Notre Dame.

The Bulls were down by one when Michael Jordan missed a jump shot with less than 4 seconds left, and Hawkins sealed the game with his free throw 2 seconds later.

Jordan led all scorers with 35 points, followed by the Sonics’ Shawn Kemp, a former Elkhart, Ind., prep star, who finished with 26.
