Shaq Sidelined For One Month

Compiled From Wire Services

Shaquille O’Neal could be out at least a month after sustaining possible ligament damage in his right thumb during an NBA exhibition between the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat in Orlando, Fla.

An angry O’Neal said he was injured when he got tangled up under the basket with Miami’s Matt Geiger on a play and he was called for traveling.

He will be evaluated further today, the team announced.

Washington Bullets forward Chris Webber has decided to begin physical rehabilitation immediately on his injured shoulder instead of undergoing surgery. Webber will miss at least four weeks.

The cause of forward Roy Tarpley’s illness still is unknown and it’s unlikely he’ll play for the Dallas Mavericks in the immediate future.

With the NBA season beginning Nov. 3, Tarpley continues to suffer from stomach cramping and pancreatitis.
