Bruno Disputes Case

Compiled From Wire Services

WBC heavyweight champion Frank Bruno will contest the legal action taken by British rival Lennox Lewis over his plans for a title defense against Mike Tyson.

Lewis, the former champion, filed suit in High Court in London against Bruno and the WBC in a bid to protect his status as mandatory challenger for the title.

Lewis insists he is the rightful opponent for Bruno’s first defense. But Tyson’s installation as the WBC’s No. 1 contender has thrown the whole issue into dispute.

In Jay, Okla., a lawyer for Tommy Morrison posted $1,000 bond for the heavyweight boxer and entered an innocent plea on his behalf on two misdemeanor counts of assault and battery.

British boxing will be the first to introduce compulsory brain scans for fighters in a moved aimed at preventing more tragedies in the ring.

The British Boxing Board of Control will require every fighter to undergo a mandatory, yearly brain scan.
