Don Kolb Recipient Of Alumnus Award

Don Kolb, district vice president of the Community Colleges of Spokane, received the Eastern Washington University Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumnus Award.

He was honored during halftime ceremonies at the EWU Homecoming football game Saturday at Woodward Stadium.

Kolb earned two degrees at EWU: a bachelor of arts in elementary education in 1962, and a master of education in 1966. He was CCS district vice president, 1988-93 and recently resumed those duties after serving as SCC president from 1993 to 1995.

Petty Officer 1st Class John Hensley, son of Edward Hensley, Chattaroy, received a Standout Warrior Letter of Commendation while assigned with the Navy at Strike Fighter Weapons School, Pacific Naval Air Station, Lemoore, Calif. He is a 1981 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

Cmdr. Brian Williams, son of James Williams, Edwall, Wash., was awarded a master of arts degree in national security and strategic studies upon graduation from the Naval War College, Newport, R.I.

He is a 1974 graduate of Reardan (Wash.) High School, a 1979 graduate of the University of Washington, and a 1985 graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif.

He also was recently promoted to his present rank.

Shirley Eberhard, a member of the Lincoln High Garden Club, won the Tri Color Award during the recent Garden Affair, the standard flower show at Center Pointe.

Other winners and their garden clubs in the show, chaired by Sharon Cortner, and their awards were:

Jean Hartman, Lincoln Heights, Sweepstake in Design; Judy Stark, Eee-Dah-Haw, Creativity; Suzanne Rickel, Eee-Dah-Haw, Award of Merit in Design; Shirley Hansen, Eee-Dah-Haw, Arboreal; and Ashley Peterschick, for her Creepy Critters entry, the Director’s Award from Marva Lee Peterschick.

Joyce Tomayko, a member of the Lincoln Heights club, took the Sweepstakes Award in Horticulture, the Educational Award and the Award of Merit.

Six Inland Northwest 1995 high school graduates received Honors at Entrance to Whitman College, Walla Walla.

The students, their home towns and high schools are:

Heidi Cutler, Nine Mile Falls, Lakeside High.

From Spokane are Meredith Giesa and Andrew Maixner, both of Gonzaga Prep.; Jeffrey Gower, Lewis and Clark; James Watts IV, Ferris; and Jeffrey Ridlington, Mead.

Elizabeth Mann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mann, Spokane, has been accepted to Middlebury (Vt.) College, where she began fall semester.

Tamara Vance, Spokane, was named to the President’s List for summer quarter at the Oregon Institute of Technology, Klamath Falls. She is enrolled in the medical imaging technology program.
