Broadview Dairy Strike Put On Hold

From Staff And Wire Reports

Employees and managers of Broadview Dairy avoided a strike at least temporarily Thursday when negotiators worked out another contract offer in a three-hour negotiating session with a federal mediator.

Dick Solberg, secretary treasurer of Teamsters Local No. 582, which represents 47 Broadview employees, said the union will present the company’s proposal to dairy employees Sunday.

If the offer - the third made by the company in negotiations that have been under way since May - is rejected, Solberg said he is not optimistic that a strike can be avoided.

For the first time, Solberg said, Don Barbieri participated directly in the negotiations Thursday. Barbieri is president of Goodale & Barbieri Cos., which owns the Broadview Dairy.

Neither party would reveal any details of the proposed agreement.
