Sonics Escape From Warriors

Gary Payton scored 20 points and the Seattle Sonics rallied after blowing an 18-point halftime lead to defeat the Golden State Warriors 112-108.

Shawn Kemp and Detlef Schrempf added 19 points each as Seattle (5-2) had six players in double figures. Kemp also had 13 rebounds.

Tim Hardaway had 24 points for Golden State (3-4), with 15 of his points coming at the foul line, and added eight assists. Rony Seikaly had 19 points, Chris Mullin 15 and No. 1 draft pick Joe Smith had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

There were 72 fouls called in a game that featured five technical fouls.
