Police Shoot, Kill Man Wielding Pellet Gun

A city police officer shot and killed a man who threatened officers with a pellet gun, police said.

Carl Bolton, 31, died of a gunshot wound to the torso.

Police wouldn’t release the name of the officer involved in the shooting, but said he was placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. That is standard procedure after a police shooting.

Police found no sign of Bolton and left.About one hour later, the person called again, saying Bolton had returned.When returned, they Police found Bolton standing on

the porch of a house pointing a gun at them, said Lt. Rex Woodward, Woodward said.

Officers ordered Bolton to drop the gun. Instead, Woodward said, Bolton pointed the gun at police. One officer shot at Bolton, striking him at least once in the chest.

Police later discovered the gun Bolton had been pointing was a pellet gun.
