Sakic Triggers Fifth Straight Win For Surging Avalanche

Associated Press

Joe Sakic had two goals and two assists and Jocelyn Thibault stopped 21 shots Monday night to send the visiting Colorado Avalanche to their fifth consecutive NHL victory, 6-1 over the Dallas Stars.

Sakic scored a first-period power-play goal and added an insurance score in the third period. He also set up goals by Craig Wolanin and Valeri Kamensky to snap the Stars’ five-game unbeaten streak. Dallas had won three and tied two over that span.

Claude Lemieux added a third-period goal for the Avalanche, who improved to 7-3-1, best in the Western Conference.
