Showtime Cleans Up

Compiled From Wire Services

Mike Tyson’s comeback fight with Peter McNeeley will gross more than $96 million worldwide, Showtime said, including an all-time U.S. record $63 million for pay-per-view television alone.

With 90 percent of the revenue collected, Showtime Entertainment Television calculates the fight on Aug. 13 was purchased by 1.52 million homes, another record.

The previous U.S. pay-per-view record was $48.9 million with 1.4 million buys for Evander Holyfield and George Foreman on rival TVKO, Time Warner’s pay-per-view arm, in 1991. Average price for that fight was $35.95.
