Big Sky For Sac State?

Compiled From Wire Services

The ball is in Donald Gerth’s court.

Gerth, Sacramento State’s president, has received a report from the university’s athletic counsel recommending that he support the school’s bid for membership in the Big Sky Conference.

The athletic counsel is a consortium of students, faculty, athletes and administrators, and its recommendation is not necessarily binding. However, it does provide Gerth with a general consensus on where the university community stands on the question of joining the Big Sky.

Gerth already is investigating ways to fund the 63 football scholarships required for membership. The scholarships will cost $300,000. Gerth also must fund an equal number of scholarships for women’s sports, as required by gender-equity provisions.
