Corbin Art Classes Offer Something For Everyone

The Corbin Art Center has scheduled classes for its fall quarter that should appeal to most everyone. There will be fiber workshops for children, history of interior designs covering several periods and even a colored pencil workshop.

Some of the classes are “The History of Interior Design,” “A Holiday Look at the Victorian Society,” “Painting the Portrait with Colored Pencil” and “Intermediate Painting with Colored Pencil.”

There will also be several children’s classes in cross stitching, needlework and quilting.

Learn Oriental art

Tacoma artist Fumiko Kimura will lead a workshop in Asian Ink (Sumi) and Watercolor at the Corbin Art Center, 507 W. Seventh, Sept. 29 and 30.

Kimura will teach students both traditional and non-traditional Oriental brush painting techniques.

The workshop fee is $105. Call 625-6677 for more information.

Kimura has received more than 40 awards in regional and national exhibits and her work is held in both corporate and private collections.

Starting Wednesday, her art will be displayed at the center. A reception will be held for her at 6 p.m., Sept. 29, the last day of her exhibit.

Auditions

Spokane Interplayers Ensemble will hold auditions Sept. 5 at the theater, 174 S. Howard, for its 1995-96 season. Auditioners are asked to prepare two pieces of material and to call 455-PLAY to arrange a time.

Interplayers needs full-time and part-time actors as well as part-time and full-time backstage and office workers.

Spokane Civic Theatre, 1020 N. Howard, will hold auditions for the fall production of “Two Trains Running” on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 11 and 12. Callbacks will be Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Actors needed include one African-American woman, at least 25 years old, and six African-American men at least 20 years old.

The Spokane Youth Symphony will conduct auditions for four of its orchestras in September.

Try-outs for the Spokane Youth Orchestra will be Sept. 10 at Spokane Falls Community College. Contact Wayne Smith, 326-4442, for audition times.

Auditions for the Spokane Junior Orchestra and Intermediate Orchestra will also be Sept. 10 at SFCC. For times call Kathleen Blair at 922-1957.

Spokane residents make music

Two Spokane musicians, Cliff Garret and Ray H. Wiley have had their music accepted for inclusion on albums produced by HillTop Records in Hollywood.

Garrett’s music will be on the album, “America” and Wiley’s on “Roll Jordan Roll.”

Both albums will be made available locally.
