Grizzlies Do It Their Way In Whipping E. New Mexico

Montana coach Don Read had three goals for his Grizzlies in the season opener Saturday against Eastern New Mexico.

“We wanted to win, stay healthy and play a lot of kids,” he said. “I think we did those three things.”

The Division I-AA Grizzlies definitely won, 41-14, over the Division II Greyhounds.

The Grizzlies travel to Pullman to play Washington State next Saturday.

Dave Dickenson completed 25 of 32 passes for 337 yards and two touchdowns, staking the Grizzlies to a 41-7 lead before leaving with 4:05 to play in the third quarter.

Kelly Stensrud scored first-half touchdowns on a 4-yard run and a 9-yard pass from Dickenson. Stensrud’s scores were sandwiched around Joe Douglass’ 60-yard punt return for a TD.Mike Erhardt scored on a 10-yard pass from Dickenson and Sean Goicoechea on a 47-yard interception return, to give No. 4 Montana a 34-7 halftime lead.
