Hoch Flies To Lead With Birdies

Scott Hoch credited “conservatively aggressive” play for the 6-under-par 65 he shot to claim the third-round lead in the Greater Milwaukee Open.

Hoch made six birdies - two with 20-foot putts - for a total of 9-under 204 at the Brown Deer Park Golf Course. He began the third round four strokes off the lead.

Lee Rinker and Marco Dawson were tied for second at 205. Billy Mayfair, the 1993 GMO champion, Robert Gamez and Joe Acosta were at 206.

Hall of Famer Betsy King and rookies Emilee Klein and Pat Hurst shot 5-under-par 67s to share the first-round lead in the LPGA Rail Classic at Springfield, Ill. Clarkston’s Robin Walton shot a 77.

At Park City, Utah, Don Bies, winless since 1992, fired a 5-under 67 to forge a tie with South African Simon Hobday at 8-under 136 in the Franklin Quest Championship.
