Oil Spill Reaches Japanese Shore

Compiled From Wire Services

A Japanese tanker carrying 520,000 gallons of heavy oil collided with a Philippine freighter, and a 10-mile-long oil slick reached the shores of southern Japan on Monday.

About 26,000 gallons of heavy oil were believed to have spilled after the collision Sunday afternoon, said an official at the Maritime Safety Agency, Japan’s coast guard.
