Calipari, Umass Agree On 10-Year Deal Worth Nearly $5 Million

Compiled From Wire Services

John Calipari has signed a 10-year contract worth an estimated $4.5 million to $5 million, the University of Massachusetts announced Tuesday.

Calipari, already the most successful basketball coach in the school’s history with a 158-69 record in seven years, will receive the same $132,000 base pay he received in his previous contract.

With some incentive clauses replaced by guaranteed income, the package is worth $450,000 to $500,000 per year.

The contract also gives Calipari, 36, an option to remain a university employee through the age of 60.

Massachusetts is coming off its most successful season, having won its fourth straight Atlantic 10 regular-season and tournament championships and advanced to the NCAA regional finals for the first time in school history. The Minutemen (29-5) also achieved the school’s first No. 1 ranking last season.
