An 11-year-old boy, fishing out of a canoe at Loon Lake, caught an 18-pound brown trout over the Labor Day weekend.

The boy, Todd Harmon of Spokane, was fishing with his younger brothers, Nick, 7, and Kyle, 4, when the huge brown struck, Joe Haley of the Granite Point Resort said.

When the brown trout, believed to be the largest caught at Loon, finally tired, Todd tried but couldn’t lift the fish into the boat without risking turning the canoe over. He rowed to shore and lifted the trout into the canoe. Todd was using a worm.

Fishing meeting tonight

Fishermen, property owners and others will comment on proposed options for managing fisheries at Liberty Lake at a meeting at 7 tonight at the Otis elementary school, E22000 Wellesley.

Options include introducting a new predator fish to cut perch numbers, rehabilitating the lake and replanting it with trout or some other species combination or opening the lake to year-around fishing.
