Borg Leads Lakeland To Iml Win

Jenni Borg started Lakeland on the right path Thursday, and the Hawks never veered astray.

Borg served eight consecutive points during the first game - including an ace - as Lakeland topped visiting Moscow 15-2, 15-11 in an Intermountain League volleyball match at Rathdrum.

Amber Jamison had seven kills and four blocks for Lakeland. Cassie Beyer added 15 assists and Meghann Maiani had six digs.

At Plummer, Falls Christian outlasted host Lakeside 15-9, 13-15, 15-10 in a North Star League match.

Ruth Brand had eight digs, Jennifer Niebuhr seven assists, Harmony Hammons six kills and Susan Moore eight service points for the Knights (0-1, 0-2).

Coeur d’Alene traveled to Kellogg and came away with a 15-3, 15-7 non-league win.

Melissa Hei had four kills and Cassidy Beamis served 100 percent and had five service points for the losing Wildcats (1-2, 3-2).

In a non-league match at Priest River, Jacey Vogrig had 11 kills and two blocks as the host Spartans rebounded to defeat Wallace 10-15, 15-12, 15-11.

Renie Stiles added six kills and Sara Suchocki nine assists for Priest River. Joy Sperry led the Miners with 10 kills.

At Colville, Sandpoint topped the host Indians 15-8, 15-4, 11-15, 15-7 in a non-league match. No details were reported.

At East Valley, visiting Post Falls went the distance to beat the Knights 16-14, 15-7, 11-15, 8-15, 15-9. No details were reported.

GSL volleyball

Brandy Barratt had 17 kills and nine blocks as Gonzaga Prep jumped to the head of the pack with a 15-7, 15-12, 14-16, 15-8 win over visiting North Central.

Prep (2-0) fell behind 7-4 in the second game but rallied.

Tamara Van Engelen had 14 kills and six blocks for NC (0-1).Story Tombari paced Prep in aces (four), assists (37) and digs (nine). NC’s Sara Menard had 20 assists.

At Shadle Park, Ferris (1-0) started strongly with a 15-3, 15-12, 15-3 win over the Highlanders (1-1).
