She grew up in one the the most famous of surf rock families. Her name is Carnie Wilson. And, in keeping with life in the 1990s, she now has her own television talk show.

Does she have the stuff to make it a go? Here are a few of the comments she uttered during her Labor Day debut: “Oooooo, I love this!” “Come back! Come back!” “Whatta show!” “This is so touching to me!”

Here is a sample topic: “If you want to confront the guy who took advantage of you while you were drunk, call us!”

Here is her sense of determination: “I started gaining weight at 4 years old because I felt pretty unsafe in my house,” the daughter of seminal surf-rocker Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys told the show-biz rag Extra. “If I could get through that childhood, oh, God, I can get through anything,”

Loose talk

And now this from “Tonight” host Jay Leno: “The Citadel’s first female candidate, Shannon Faulkner, (has left) the Citadel. Even after just a week at the Citadel though, she still has more military experience than Bill Clinton, Phil Gramm and Newt Gingrich combined.”

Tonight he’ll hold his party of parties

Sid Caesar turns 73 today.

And then they sit around and watch ‘All My Children’

As a model and sometime actress, Lauren Hutton has seen the fancy side of life. But she prefers something a little rougher. “My idea of glamour is seeing dawn with the pygmies in Ituri forest,” she told USA Today. “That’s my idea of high glamour.”

And for this he left his kith and kin?

Britain’s Prince William, 13, won’t have to worry about getting along with the other boys now that he has begun his education at prestigious Eton College. “He will be among his own kind,” sniffed Lord Longford, a former politician and alumni of Eton’s class of 1924.

So keep an eye out for his movies - or is that ear?

Film director Theo Van Gogh, great-great nephew of Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, says his name has been a mixed blessing. “I was born with that name and it makes a good entrance,” he says. “But then the conversation invariably gets around to Vincent. They don’t realize I’d have become a director if my name was Joe Sixpack.”

Maybe she’s worried that he can’t hold a job

Despite family denials, the New York Post insists that John F. Kennedy Jr. has proposed to the woman he lives with, Carolyn Bessette. Apparently, the paper reports, she is taking her “sweet time” to decide.

Whatever, she’ll be out in time to start her own talk show

Divine Brown was fined $1,350 and sentenced to 24 months on probation after pleading no contest on Wednesday to lewd conduct with actor Hugh Grant last June 27. She’ll also do five days community service, and the court required her to enroll in an AIDS education course by Nov. 2. As for returning to jail, Brown will serve some time because she violated probation from a 1993 conviction for solicitation. Grant, meanwhile, received an $1,180 fine and two years probation.
