Minor Glitches Slow Endeavour’s Mission

Astronauts on the space shuttle Endeavour performed their main job flawlessly Friday, but little else worked well.

Endeavour, delayed twice on the ground because of technical problems, suffered at least nine glitches Friday, just a day after launch. NASA managers emphasized that none of the problems was major and most were corrected, except for one small experiment that probably had to be scrubbed.

Yet astronauts had no problems tossing a $13 million astronomy satellite into orbit to monitor the sun’s wind. Endeavour will recapture the satellite on Sunday.
