Seahawks: DE Antonio Edwards (knee), WR Ricky Proehl (ankle), OT Ray Roberts (ankle) and LB Dean Wells (elbow) are out; OT James Atkins and RB Lamar Smith (ankle) are probable.

Chargers: CB Darrien Gordon (shoulder), TE Deems May (foot), WR Jimmy Oliver (shoulder) and G Troy Sienkiewicz (knee) are out; WR Andre Coleman (hip) is questionable; RB Natrone Means (hip) is probable.

NOTABLE

The Chargers have won six of the last seven meetings with Seattle. A 99-yard touchdown pass from Stan Humphries to Tony Martin was the turning point in the game at Seattle, while the Chargers scored 35 unanswered points in a 35-15 romp in San Diego last season.

After the first weekend, the Chargers are ranked ninth in total offense (21st in rushing and third in passing) and eighth in defense (22nd against the run and fifth vs. the pass). Seattle is ranked 13th in offense (20th in rushing and seventh in passing), with the defense ranked 26th (24th in rushing and 26th in passing).

ANALYSIS

This one will help define whether the Seahawks are still truly the AFC West bottom-feeders or if the first-game debacle against the Chiefs was simply an aberration.

Big plays doomed the Hawks last week, and a replay of those will once again spell an embarrassing defeat. As Humphries and Martin proved with the 99-yard hook-up last year, this is a team that can go deep.

Seattle’s passing game showed a few flashes of competence last week and should be able to exploit the San Diego secondary. But if Leslie O’Neal, Shawn Lee and Junior Seau get pressure on Rick Mirer, this one will be defeat No. 2.
