Lady In Sable Comes On Strong To Capture Sweetheart At Playfair

Lady in Sable swung out on the stretch turn then rallied in the middle of the track to gain a 2-length victory Saturday in the $6,900 Sweetheart Handicap at Playfair Race Course.

Lady in Sable, ridden by Jason Eads, covered the Playfair Course of about 6-1/2 furlongs in 1:16-2/5.

Night Rodeo closed rapidly to finish second, a head in front of Maheras Turn, the even-money favorite in a field of eight fillies and mares.

Although she was a previous stakes winner, Lady in Sable was allowed to go postward at 19-1. She paid $40.80 to win. The 4-year-old filly collected $3,795, raising her earnings to $27,062 for her fifth victory in only 14 career starts.

The Sweetheart is the first of 17 stakes events scheduled for the Playfair meet, which completes its first week this afternoon with a 10-race card featuring the 47th running of the Inland Empire Speed Handicap. Post time is 1:30.
