Dozens Die In Ganges When Ferry Hits Bridge

A ferry loaded with 150 people hit a bridge Monday and sank in the Ganges River in northern India. At least 40 people reportedly drowned.

Residents of Bararighat, 850 miles east of the capital, New Delhi, said 36 people swam to shore and rescuers pulled 22 other people from the water, the United News of India news agency reported.
