Writer Stands By Gingrich Article
The writer of a magazine article alleging that House Speaker Newt Gingrich had affairs with several women in the 1970s says none of the people she quoted has complained to her about the article’s accuracy.
“Because he cannot challenge the facts in the article, Speaker Gingrich has chosen to attack me personally,” Vanity Fair contributing editor Gail Sheehy said Monday in a statement.
Sheehy issued the statement after Gingrich on Sunday called her a “vicious liberal” who was out to get him in the article she wrote for the September issue of the magazine.
Interviewed on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program, Gingrich, R-Ga., said friends of his who had talked with Sheehy regretted doing so because “she so systematically manipulated and was so totally dishonest in the article …”
