Russia Accuses West Of Genocide

Associated Press

Intensifying its outcry against NATO air attacks on the Bosnian Serbs, Russia brought out its heavy verbal artillery Tuesday and accused the West of committing genocide.

In its most sharply worded statement yet, the government accused NATO for killing innocent Serb civilians, including children.

“The very survival of the current generation of Bosnian Serbs, who are actually facing genocide, is called into question,” it said.

Russian anger over NATO’s role in former Yugoslavia is threatening to spoil ties with the West. President Boris Yeltsin has spoken of possibly reexamining Russia’s relations with NATO.

He has suggested, too, that Russian aid to the Serbs, historic allies and religious brethren, might become “hot” - a probable reference to some form of military help.
