Plays, Symphony On Tap At Terrace View Park

Two plays and a Spokane Symphony concert highlight this weekend’s Valleyfest offerings:

“Jack and the Beanstalk,” a classic fairy tale that all children know and love, will be performed by the Spokane Children’s Theater and stars Ricky Martin, an 11-year-old Valley resident, as Jack.

The musical will be performed from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Martin, a fifth grader at Trent Elementary, is not the only Valley resident in the play. Ashley Goodrich, also a fifth grader at Trent, plays The Golden Goose. Nicolas Lee Weber, a junior at University High School, portrays the Baron.

The play also stars Peggy Vane as Mrs. Sprague, Zeke Maloney and his sister Anna as two halves of Betsy, the cow, Michael Vane as the giant, Susan Ford as the housekeeper, Kevin Smith as the assistant, and Hannah Kimball as the silver harp.

“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” will be performed by the Spokane Valley ACT from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Spokane Indians’ mascot Otto, otherwise known as Mike Hynes, stars as Charlie Brown. Hynes has performed in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene theaters.

The play will take the audience through an average day in the life of the main character. The day is made up of little moments, from Valentine’s Day to the baseball season, and mixes in the lives of his friends.

Co-starring are: Trudy Rogers as Lucy, Kathie Doyle-Lipe as Snoopy, Greg Pschinner as Schroeder, Joe Cannon as Linus and Vicki Hynes as Patty.

The Spokane Symphony presents its fifth annual free concert from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday to cap off Valleyfest for another year.

The program leads off with the national anthem, then proceeds into a varied mix of selections: “Buckaroo Holiday” from “Rodeo” by Copland, Broadway Salute by Custer, selections from “South Pacific” by Rodgers, “The Lion King Orchestral Suite,” by Elton John, selections from “Phantom of the Opera” by Lloyd Webber, “Overture 1812” by Tchaikovsky and “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by Sousa.
