11 Emmy Winners Tied To Geographic

The Hollywood Reporter

The National Geographic brand name was good for 11 trophies at the 16th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards presented Tuesday night by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. TBS’ “National Geographic Explorer” took five awards, equal to its total last year. PBS’ National Geographic series and specials captured another five, while the syndicated “World of National Geographic” captured one.

It was also a big Emmy night for “Dateline NBC,” the network newsmagazine that was not expected to survive a scandal over a 1992 story about General Motors’ trucks. “Dateline” won five Emmys, including two for outstanding general coverage of a single breaking news story.

PBS had the most wins of any network, collecting 11 trophies.
