University Stuns Ferris In Four

Kristina McAuley had 16 kills and five blocks Friday as University scored the biggest upset of the Greater Spokane League volleyball season, a 15-4, 15-6, 8-15, 15-4 win over visiting Ferris.

With the win, the Titans tie Ferris and idle Lewis and Clark for second place with 3-1 records.

Angel Whalen had 35 assists and Sally Jamison 19 digs and three aces for U-Hi. Molly Jones topped the Saxons with 23 assists, 14 digs and three blocks.

The U-Hi victory handed undisputed first place to Gonzaga Prep (4-0), which scored a 15-10, 15-11, 15-2 win at Shadle Park.

Brandy Barratt had 17 kills and three blocks, and Story Tombari added four aces and 30 assists for the Bullpups. Courtney Clary had eight kills for the Highlanders (1-4).

GSL girls soccer

A dozen players were involved in the scoring as Mead beat goalkeeper-short Rogers 10-0 at Mead.

Stacy Clinesmith scored twice for the Panthers (4 regulation wins, 0 overtime wins, 0 overtime losses, 0 regulation losses), who passed idle LC for first place with 12 points.

In lieu of an injury earlier this week to goalie Angie Vulcano of Rogers (0-0-1-4), the Panthers attempted to keep down the score. Mead goalies Holly Vanwert and Gina Hopoi scored.

At G-Prep, Danielle Mirabell scored three times as the host Bullpups (3-0-0-1) moved into third with a 5-0 win over Shadle.

Marisa Jenkins added one goal and one assist for G-Prep. The Highlanders (0-0-1-4) were limited to one shot on goal.

At U-Hi, Sara Streufert scored twice as the host Titans (2-0-0-2) defeated Central Valley 5-2.

The Bears (2-0-1-2) began the match with Katie Carpenter’s breakaway goal.

Ferris’ match with North Central was postponed until Monday.
