Spokane Red Cross Helping Marilyn Victims

From Staff And Wire Reports

Five volunteers from the Inland Northwest Red Cross will leave today to join relief workers in the Caribbean islands ravaged by Hurricane Marilyn.

Joyce Cameron, a spokeswoman for the local Red Cross, said the group includes experts in managing shelters and feeding large numbers of people. They will be part of a group of about 30 disaster experts from Washington state answering the call for aid in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

“They will be down there at least three weeks. This is a hardship tour for them,” said Cameron. All volunteers had to pass physicals Sunday afternoon.

All have worked at other disasters, including the California earthquake, Hurricane Hugo and the Midwest floods.
