Freshman Enrollment Increasing At UI

From Staff And Wire Reports

Overall enrollment at the University of Idaho is stable this semester, but the school says it’s enrolling more freshman students from within the state.

George Simmons, vice provost for academic affairs, said in-state freshman registration went up 7.3 percent, even though the number of freshmen from outside the state fell 4.8 percent.

The school registered 11,727 for fall semester, almost exactly the same number as last year, registrar Matt Telin said.

“We predicted a decline in out-of-state students when the board approved an increase in out-of-state tuition and fees to $7,000,” Simmons said.

The number of Hispanic students went up 8.7 percent and the Indian enrollment was up 18.9 percent.
