Maydell Rozelle Spokane

Service for Maydell Rozelle, 63, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 22nd Ward. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Hayworth, Okla., Mrs. Rozelle died Sunday.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Inland Empire Steam and Gas Buffs.

Her husband, John Rozelle, died in 1986.

She is survived by one son, Charles Tusken of Bullhead City, Ariz.; three daughters, Pauline Willis and Mona White, both of Spokane, and Edith Rozelle of Greenacres; seven grandchildren and four great-grandsons.

Evelyn Elixman Spokane

Funeral Mass for Evelyn Delores Elixman, 81, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann Catholic Church with burial at Riverside Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Elixman died Sunday.

She was a member of the Packing House Workers Union and had worked as a meat cutter.

She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

Her husband, Joseph Elixman, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Elixman is survived by two sisters, Irene Martin and Edna Edgerton, both of Spokane; and one stepdaughter, Frances Dalzell of Ukiah, Calif.

Mark Busse Reardan, Wash.

Service for Mark August Busse, 18, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Smith Gymnasium at Reardan High School. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mark was born in Spokane and died Monday at home from lung cancer.

He was a senior at Reardan High School and earned varsity letters in football, basketball and track.

He is survived by his mother and father, Bonnie and Larry Busse of Reardan; one brother, Tim, and one sister, Jill, both students at Washington State University; and his grandparents, Luella Busse of Moses Lake, and Hein and Bernie Jansen of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wishing Star Foundation.

Robert Thom Coeur d’Alene

Private inurnment graveside service for Robert Edward Thom, 71, will be held Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service of Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thom, who was born in Billings, Mont., died Friday at the Coeur d’Alene Convalescent Center.

He served with the Navy at Pearl Harbor.

He moved to North Idaho in 1977 from Bridger, Mont.

Mr. Thom was medically retired but worked as a ranch hand in the area.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Survivors include two sisters, Betty Coriell of Polson, Mont., and Yalonda Covich of Spokane; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Osburn, Idaho.

Frances Rains Spokane

Memorial Mass for Frances (Eugene) Rains, 82, will be at 4 p.m. today at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Private inurnment will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Rains, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday.

She graduated from North Central High School and Kinman Business University and had worked for Washington Water Power Co. until 1954.

She was a member of Medical Lake Community Church and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Her husband, Ben Rains, died in 1991.

She is survived by two brothers, Eugene “Dick” Eugene and Robert Eugene.

Hedwig Staschek Spokane

Graveside service for Hedwig G. Staschek, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Staschek, who was born in Germany, died Sunday.

She had lived in Spokane for 16 years and was a homemaker.

Her husband, George, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, George Staschek of Spokane; and two sisters, Clara Dieker of Germany and Agnes of Canada.

Laurie Huston Eagan, Minn.

Service for Laurie D. Huston, a former Spokane resident, was held Sept. 10 at Sts. Martha and Mary Episcopal Church in Eagan. Burial was at Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights, Minn.

Mrs. Huston died Sept. 7 in Edina, Minn. She was 44.

She was born in Pasco and graduated from University High School and Washington State University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She later received an accounting degree and worked as a certified public accountant in Minneapolis, where she had lived for the past five years.

She is survived by her husband, Stephan; three children, Jennifer, Michael and George Miserendion Jr., all of Apple Valley, Minn.; three stepchildren; her father and stepmother, Dick and Kathy Jones of Chehalis, Wash.; her mother, Jean Jones of Spokane; three sisters, Paula Freeman of Redmond, Wash., Connie Psomas of Liberty Lake and Barbara Thoensen of Denver; and four stepgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

James ‘Joe’ Henning Sunset, Wash.

Service for James T. “Joe” Henning, 71, is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church of St. John, Wash. A private burial service will precede at St. John Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Henning, who was born in Sunset, died Sunday at Whitman Hospital in Colfax, Wash.

He and his wife, Florence, farmed from 1945 until 1989. He served as Whitman County commissioner from 1974 until 1988 and recently retired from the Department of Transportation Commission.

He served as the timekeeper and bus driver for the St. John Athletic Department for more than 30 years.

Mr. Henning was a member of Sunset Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, the Wheatland Grange, the Whitman County Pomona Grange and the St. John Community Club.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years; one son, Nick Henning of St. John; one daughter, Vicki Gehring of Craigmont, Idaho; three granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Emergency Medical Technicians, in care of the St. John Fire Department.

Alma Brendmoen Spokane

Service for Alma M. Brendmoen, 94, will be at 10 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service.

Mrs. Brendmoen, who died Sunday, was born in Roslyn, S.D.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 52 years.

She was a member of the Lutheran church.

Her husband, John Brendmoen, died in 1967.

Mrs. Brendmoen is survived by one daughter-in-law, Joan Brendmoen of Spokane; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lillie Starkel Odessa, Wash.

Service for Lillie B. Starkel, 87, was held Monday at Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa. Burial was at Odessa Cemetery.

Mrs. Starkel, who died Sept. 11, was born in Wilbur, Wash.

She and her husband, George, farmed eight miles north of Marlin, Wash. Her husband died in 1964 and she moved to Odessa.

In Odessa she worked at Memorial Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of the Cannawai Grange and the Presbyterian Church of Marlin.

She is survived by four daughters, Carol Spies of Marlin, Gloria Doak of Moses Lake, Joyce Oberg of Wilson Creek, Wash., and Josephine Disciascio of Odessa; one son, Jerry Starkel of Marlin; one brother, Lester Webley of Colville, Wash.; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ronald ‘Lefty’ Williams Spokane

Service for Ronald A. “Lefty” Williams, 69, is set for 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Williams, who died Sunday at home, was born in Farmington, Wis., and had lived in Spokane for 48 years.

He graduated from Rogers High School and served in the Navy.

He retired from Burroughs Corp. in 1986 after 39 years.

Mr. Williams was a charter member of the Foothills Rural Association.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mae; one son, Steven Williams of Albany, Ore.; two sisters, Phyllis Wink and Merle Ann Leytze, both of Spokane; one stepbrother, Clair Williams of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
