Ginger Clark Central Valley Year: Junior Sport: Volleyball Position: Middle Hitter

Ginger Clark’s parents were involved in the process of selecting new Central Valley volleyball coach Laurie Henry.

Henry, for her part, selects Clark as a major reason the Bears are improving their standing in the Greater Spokane League.

“As far as an all-around player, it’s Ginger Clark,” Henry said. “She’s leading us in digs … she’s leading us in kills.”

Clark took charge last Saturday as CV defeated Shadle Park for the first time in a decade. Henry, the former Laurie Putnam, CV class of 1984, believes the Bears last toppled the mighty Highlanders during her junior season.

With its first win of the year, CV equaled its total from last year.

“It was awesome,” Clark said of the win. “There’s no other word for it.”

“There was nothing coming over the net that (Ginger) didn’t put right back at them,” Henry said.

Clark was promoted from the CV junior varsity during the middle of last season. She faced the delicate situation of receiving more playing time than sister Emily, then a senior.

Emily, now at Arizona with basketball-playing sister Jacque, threw her support behind her little sister. These days, the younger Clark gives support instead of taking it.

“I just try to do my part: getting everyone fired up,” Clark said. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Photo
