An AIDS-infected man who accused Chicago’s Cardinal Joseph Bernardin of molesting him, then recanted, died Friday.
Steven Cook, 36, of Philadelphia, died at University of Cincinnati Hospital, said spokeswoman Diana Cline. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Cook filed a $10 million lawsuit in 1993 against Bernardin. Bernardin denied any wrongdoing.
Cook claimed that Bernardin, then archbishop of Cincinnati, abused him between 1975 and 1977, while he was a student at a Cincinnati seminary.
Cook later recanted his accusation saying his dredged-up memories of abuse were false.
