Police Probe Kidnap Of Officer’s Daughter

From Staff And Wire Reports

The 15-year-old daughter of a Seattle Police Department captain was abducted from her home and held captive for several hours before being released, authorities have confirmed.

Tania Elliot, daughter of Capt. Toni McWashington, was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation after her ordeal Thursday, police said.

Family members told Saturday’s Seattle Times the teen had been placed inside a trunk for several hours and later dropped off near her grandmother’s house.

Tania was unharmed but extremely distraught when reunited with family members, Capt. Larry Farrar, violent crimes commander, told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Police sources told the P-I that investigators had identified a suspect, matching a fingerprint found at the McWashington home to a Seattle man.

Farrar wouldn’t comment on those developments.

“We have leads that we believe look promising,” Farrar said. “We’re keeping all our options open. We’re looking at every detail.”

Tania, a Garfield High School sophomore, was interviewed extensively by investigators on Friday.

The girl’s mother oversees the police department’s traffic, special patrol, horses and canine units.

Toni McWashington returned home Thursday morning after spending the night at a friend’s house and reported her daughter missing.
