Pierce Nets Big Win

Mary Pierce beat top seed Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario 6-3, 6-3 for the Nichirei International Ladies Tennis Championship and called her aggressive net play “a new and important addition” to her game.

Pierce also sent passing shots by the defending champion in the 73-minute final before 6,500 spectators.
