Woman Killed In Nightclub Shooting

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 36-year-old Spanaway woman was killed early Sunday when a drive-by gunman fired numerous rounds into the parking lot of a Lakewood dance club, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sheila Warren was believed to be an innocent bystander, said sheriff’s spokesman Curt Benson. She died immediately after being shot about 2 a.m., police said.

Warren had left the Club Nubien with a female friend to get alcohol from the friend’s car, and was standing beside the car, he said.

The shooter drove up and fired numerous rounds toward the many people standing around the club’s parking area before driving off, he said.

“We don’t believe that she was the intended victim,” said Benson. Police don’t have a motive but believe the shooter was aiming at someone else in the crowd.

Witnesses told police that two other people might have been wounded, but Benson says no one else reported being shot.

Police had no suspects Sunday night, nor a clear description of the shooter’s car.

Benson said information from witnesses was “sketchy” and not as “forthcoming as it could be.”

Benson says Club Nubien has not had problems with violence in the past. The club is about one-quarter mile away from the entrance of McChord Air Force Base.

Warren was married and the mother of a young child. Her husband was at the club but not injured.
