Regional programs are helping disabled hunters fill their tags.
Boise-Cascade has designated two areas for vehicle access for disabled sportsmen. One area is near Waitts Lake, the other is on Storm King Mountain, 3 miles north of Republic.
The areas remain open to all hunters, but only hunters displaying the fluorescent orange Washington State disabled hunter’s permit will be allowed to access the areas by vehicle.
An able-bodied person is allowed to assist the disabled hunter. But the able-bodied person is not allowed to hunt while accessing the area by vehicle.
The program was arranged by an agreement with Boise-Cascade and Washington Fish and Wildlife Department, with the assistance of Ric Villalobos, the barrier-free recreation chair of the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council.
