Perfect Game Lost On Last Ball

Mark James was trying for a gold ring. What he got was a mounted bowling pin.

James, 27, who has been bowling most of his life and seriously since he was 15, was within one ball of collecting his first perfect game when he left a solid 10 pin on his 12th ball in the Friday Fivers league at Colonial City Bowl Sept. 15.

He settled for a 299, and got a pin as a consolation prize.

“My boss took one of the pins out of the machine, put in on a base and gave it to me,” said James, who is a pinsetter mechanic at Colonial. “It says, ‘The one that got away.”’
