Archbishop Indicted In Cathedral Project
A Sicilian archbishop was indicted Monday on charges of taking a kickback for renovation work on his cathedral and defrauding the European Community, Italian news reports said.
Monsignor Salvatore Cassisa, 75, will stand trial in July on charges of extortion, fraud and making false statements.
Cassisa’s archdiocese of Monreale, just outside Palermo, is the island’s largest in terms of area and has a population of 200,000 people.
