D’Amato Threatens To Shift Hearings

Sen. Alfonse D’Amato designated the Senate Banking Committee on Monday as the body for conducting Whitewater hearings if Democrats refuse to extend D’Amato’s special investigative panel after the Easter recess.

The Senate Whitewater Committee’s authority expired Feb. 29. Senate Democrats have refused to extend it unless Republicans guarantee that any additional hearings will end by mid-June, well before the parties’ nominating conventions in August.
