Kootenai Home Sales Up For March

Eric Torbenson Staff writer

Kootenai County home sales rose 5 percent in March compared with last year.

Sales in the Coeur d’Alene jumped 39 percent compared with March last year, to 43 from 31, according to the numbers released Monday by the Coeur d’Alene Multiple Listing Service.

Sales dropped in Post Falls, Dalton/Hayden and outlying areas of Kootenai County to offset most of the gains in Coeur d’Alene.

The average price of homes sold in March was $105,970, a 9 percent drop from the average price of $116,614 in March a year earlier.

While the number of units sold so far this year has generally matched the totals of early 1995, the average sale price has been lower.

For 1996, the average price of a home sold in the county is $110,089 compared with $118,707 for the first three months of 1995.

For the first quarter of the year, more than a quarter of all homes sold in the county fell between the $85,000-$99,999 price range, a percentage that has been growing, especially with new homes.
