Microsoft Unveils Simple-Pc Plan

From Staff And Wire Reports

Microsoft Corp. on Monday disclosed standards for an easy-to-use personal computer that could be linked to the Internet and such devices as stereos and VCRs.

“While the PC is easier to use today, we should not be satisfied,” Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates told an engineering conference. “SIPC technologies will make the PC as easy and convenient to use as other home appliances.”

Several hardware companies, including Intel Corp., Compaq Computer Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co. and Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., have endorsed the general standard, Microsoft said.

Redmond-based Microsoft, the world’s largest maker of personal computer software, said SIPC systems will be so easy to use that users without computing experience will be turn them on and immediately play games, watch movies, connect to their stereos or link to the Internet.
