Small Group Greets Returning Seahawks

Associated Press

About 20 Seahawks fans braved rain showers Tuesday as they showed up at the team’s headquarters in the Seattle suburbs to welcome the players back to their off-season workouts.

The players hope things settle down long enough to know where they are supposed to show up.

About three dozen players worked out in Southern California for two weeks last month until NFL officials ordered the team to return to Seattle by April 1 or face a fine of $500,000 plus $50,000 a week. Twenty-one players showed up Tuesday morning at Kirkland to continue workouts.

Seahawks owner Ken Behring has said he is moving the team to Southern California. Local officials have sued to keep him from breaking a Kingdome lease.

“It’s been a roller-coaster ride and I’m anxious to get settled, but I’ve got the best of both worlds - I have family in California and in Seattle,” said tight end Christian Fauria. “I just wish we’d get a definite yes or no so I could get my house in order as far as my mental state goes. “

“I was stoked to come back,” said offensive lineman Kevin Mawae. “I’m glad to be back because this is where we belong.”
